Impaired SwallowingFor most of us, chewing and swallowing is a simple process that makes eating and drinking easy. However there are many conditions that can interfere with a person’s ability to eat and drink and therefore increase the possibility of dehydration and poor nutrition. Including:Dysphagia – a medical term used to describe dysfunctional swallowing. Dentures – new or poorly fitted dentures can cause pain and discomfort. Oral Surgery/dentistry – teeth extractions, braces, and other procedures can cause pain, swelling and restrict mouth movement. |
